Beauprez Response To House Support Of Pledge Of Allegiance In Schools

WASHINGTON, DC - The U.S. House today passed a resolution urging the United States Supreme Court to find the use of the Pledge of Allegiance in schools to be consistent with the Constitution of the United States. The measure was agreed to after the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals found it unconstitutional to include the Pledge in public school exercises. In response to the ruling and the subsequent House action, Rep. Bob Beauprez (R-Colo.) issued the following statement:

"The recent ruling by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals is an attack on the Pledge of Allegiance and on the traditions and practices of mainstream America. The Pledge is not about injecting religion into our public schools; it is about allowing our children to voluntarily participate in this patriotic tradition that has become part of our social fabric. I certainly hope and pray that children in Colorado will never be prohibited from reciting the Pledge of Allegiance each morning, and I hope the Supreme Court will quickly reverse this unfounded and unpatriotic ruling from the 9th Circuit of Appeals."
